At Avangart Dental Clinic in Istanbul, we help patients plan their braces treatment in Turkey with care and clear advice. A straighter smile can make you feel more confident, but it can also make everyday things like chewing and speaking feel easier and more comfortable.

Many patients choose teeth straightening in Turkey because private orthodontic care can be much more affordable than in the UK. Depending on the case and the type of braces, some patients may save up to 70%.

But getting braces abroad needs careful planning. Fixed braces often need regular tightening visits, which can mean more trips to Istanbul. Clear aligners may be a better option for some international patients because several stages of treatment can often be planned in advance.

Before treatment, our orthodontist in Turkey checks your teeth, bite, jaw position, crowding, gaps, and smile goals. We then explain your options, the expected treatment time, travel needs, and the cost of braces in Turkey before you decide.

Types of Dental Braces Treatment in Turkey

The right braces depend on your teeth, your bite, your daily life, and how often you can travel to Istanbul for check-ups. For international patients, this matters a lot.

1. Traditional Metal Braces

If you’re considering braces in Turkey, metal braces are a popular choice because they’re sturdy and usually easier on the wallet. They’re made up of small metal brackets and wires that work together with dental cement to gently shift your teeth into the right position over time.

They are a strong option for tooth crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, and more complex bite issues. They are also common for teenagers and adults who want a reliable treatment at a lower cost.

For international patients, metal braces can work well if you are able to return for adjustment visits. You must also avoid hard and sticky foods, such as gum, popcorn, hard sweets, and biting whole apples, as these can loosen brackets, bend wires, or delay your progress.

2. Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces, also called clear braces, work in a similar way to metal braces. The main difference is that the brackets are tooth-coloured, so they look more discreet when you smile.

This option may suit adults who want fixed braces but prefer a less visible look. Ceramic braces can treat many of the same cases as metal braces, including crowded teeth and gaps.

They do need careful cleaning. Coffee, tea, smoking, and poor oral hygiene can make the brackets or elastic parts look stained over time. Like metal braces, they also need regular checks, so we discuss travel timing before starting.

3. Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are placed on the inner side of the teeth, near the tongue. As a result, they are hidden from the outside, earning them the nickname “invisible braces.

They can be an excellent option for patients who want fixed orthodontics but do not want visible brackets. They are frequently preferred by adults who speak in public, attend meetings, or are self-conscious about braces.

However, lingual braces may not be the most convenient option for dental tourists. They can take up to two weeks to feel normal, and they may require regular wire changes. If you live abroad, we will only recommend them if your travel schedule is reasonable.

4. Clear Aligners and Invisalign

Clear aligners, such as Invisalign, use removable transparent trays instead of brackets and wires. They are almost imperceptible and can be removed for eating, brushing teeth, and important occasions.

For many international patients, this is the most travel-friendly option. After your 3D scan and treatment plan, several aligners can often be prepared in advance. You still need check-ups, but the visit schedule may be easier than fixed braces.

Clear aligners work best when patients are disciplined. You usually need to wear them for 20 to 22 hours per day. We also explain the expected timeline and Invisalign cost in Turkey before treatment, so you can compare it with other options.

Traditional Wired vs Non-Wired Braces

Traditional wired braces use small ties to hold the wire in place. They usually need tightening about every 4 weeks, which can mean more flights and hotel stays for patients living abroad.

Self-ligating, or non-wired braces, use a small slide mechanism instead of ties. In many cases, visits can be spaced every 8–12 weeks. When comparing braces prices in Istanbul, it is worth looking beyond the clinic fee and thinking about travel costs too. This gives international patients a clearer, more realistic idea of the total braces pricing before they commit to treatment.

Can I Get Braces in Turkey if I Live in the UK?

Yes, you can get braces in Turkey if you live in the UK, but the treatment must be planned around travel from the start. Fixed braces can work well, but they often need in-clinic adjustment visits every 4–8 weeks, which may not be practical for every patient.

For many UK patients, clear aligners are the easier option. If your case is suitable, we can take digital scans during your first visit, prepare your treatment plan, and provide several aligner sets in advance. Your progress can then be reviewed remotely, with planned visits to Istanbul only when needed.

This does not mean orthodontic treatment is “hands-off.” You still need to wear your aligners as instructed, send progress updates, attend planned check-ups, and follow our advice closely. A good result depends on both the orthodontist and the patient working together.

If fixed braces are better suited to your bite, we will clearly explain the travel schedule before treatment begins to avoid surprises later.

In Which Situations Do We Apply Braces Treatments in Turkey?

We recommend braces when the teeth or jaws need help to move into a better, healthier position. This may include crowded teeth, gaps, rotated teeth, an overbite, an underbite, a crossbite, or a bite that does not close properly.

Braces may also help when early tooth loss, thumb sucking, long-term pacifier use, or jaw growth issues have affected the way the teeth meet. In some cases, we also treat impacted teeth or narrow jaw arches as part of a wider orthodontic plan.

Before treatment, we use 3D scans and digital smile planning to study your bite, tooth position, and smile line. Some patients also choose veneers after braces, but only after the teeth are properly aligned.

How braces work?

In Which Situations Can We Not Apply Dental Braces Treatment in Turkey?

We only begin braces treatment when it is safe for your teeth, gums, and jawbone. Braces need healthy gums, stable bone, and a patient who can attend follow-up visits.

Treatment may need to be delayed or avoided if you have:

We only begin braces treatment when it is safe for your teeth, gums, and jawbone. Braces need healthy gums, stable bone, and a patient who can attend follow-up visits.

For international patients, this last point is very important. The fixed braces need regular checks, and if you cannot return to Istanbul when needed, we may suggest clear aligners instead, or advise you to continue orthodontic care with a local specialist in your home country.

Our role is not just to place braces. It is to tell you honestly whether braces are safe, suitable, and realistic for your case.

FAQs

The best time to get braces is often between ages 12 and 14, when most adult teeth have come through, and the jaw is still growing. Many bite problems, crowded teeth, and space issues can be more easily corrected at this stage.

That said, adults can also get braces if their gums and bone support are healthy. Many adult patients choose orthodontic treatment before cosmetic work, such as teeth whitening or a Hollywood smile, because straight teeth create a better base for the final result.

For younger children, we may suggest an early orthodontic check if there are signs of jaw growth problems, thumb sucking effects, or severe crowding.

Yes, you can sometimes get braces if you already have dental implants. The important thing to know is that implants do not move like natural teeth because they are fixed in the jawbone.

This is why planning matters. If you need both braces and implants, we usually prefer to straighten the teeth first, then place the implant in the right space. If you already have an implant, we check its position, your bite, and the teeth around it before we decide what is safe.

Choose a color that makes you feel comfortable when you smile. Silver, grey, navy, and dark purple are popular because they look neat and can make teeth appear a little brighter.

White or pale yellow bands are best avoided because they can stain or make teeth look darker. Younger patients often enjoy brighter colors, while adults usually prefer simple shades that are easier to wear at work or in social settings.
